This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Utilize hands-on mechanical engineering skills to tackle technically challenging tasks involving real physical systems and products.
• Examine and assess mechanical designs, engineering analyses, simulation outcomes, testing methodologies, and troubleshooting strategies.
• Evaluate engineering trade-offs related to structures, materials, thermal performance, mechanical design, dynamics, vibration, controls, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Determine the technical accuracy and practical viability of engineering solutions for tangible mechanical engineering challenges.
• Identify erroneous assumptions, unrealistic boundary conditions, design flaws, failure modes, and risks associated with implementation or reliability.
• Create or review technically sound engineering problems, reference solutions, evaluation standards, and technical documentation.
• Leverage practical experience in design, simulation, prototyping, hardware integration, testing, validation, qualification, debugging, and manufacturing.
• Provide insightful technical feedback based on real-world engineering experience and established engineering principles.
• Engage in projects that blend advanced hardware engineering with AI research.
• Assist in enhancing how advanced AI systems reason about mechanical design, structural analysis, thermal systems, dynamics, controls, testing, and hardware troubleshooting.
• Collaborate remotely with a team of skilled engineers and researchers.
• Over 5 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of recent, hands-on involvement in hardware development, analysis, testing, validation, integration, or troubleshooting.
• Experience as the lead engineer for tangible hardware or physical systems, overseeing significant portions of the engineering lifecycle.
• In-depth technical knowledge in at least one core area: structural/stress analysis and FEA; thermal analysis, heat transfer, and thermal management; mechanical design and product development; or dynamics, vibration, mechanisms, and controls.
• Strong practical understanding of materials, loads and boundary conditions, structural margins, fatigue, thermal constraints, tolerances/GD&T, component selection, reliability, manufacturability, system integration, and engineering failure-mode analysis.
• Extensive practical experience in analyzing, testing, debugging, and validating physical hardware.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering tools such as CAD/CAE, FEA, CFD/thermal simulation, dynamic or controls simulation, testing instrumentation, data acquisition, and structured root-cause analysis.
• Demonstrated experience in developing hardware within real-world product or manufacturing settings.
• Background in hardware-centric industries such as aerospace/defense, space, automotive/EV, semiconductors, consumer electronics, robotics/eVTOL, industrial/energy, or medical devices.
• Ability to articulate technical decisions, design trade-offs, test outcomes, and failure mechanisms clearly.
• Engagement as an independent contractor.
• Must not require H1-B or STEM OPT support.
