Senior Public Sector Compensation & Classification Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead compensation and classification studies for organizations in the public sector.

• Assess job descriptions, organizational frameworks, and employee surveys; conduct interviews when necessary.

• Evaluate job positions and create job families, classifications, grades, and career pathways.

• Execute market surveys and peer comparisons within the public sector.

• Analyze aspects of competitiveness, internal equity, pay compression, and compensation relationships.

• Develop salary schedules, ranges, and options for implementation.

• Review classifications for FLSA exempt/nonexempt status.

• Prepare scenarios for fiscal impact and phased implementation.

• Present findings to executives, boards, elected officials, and staff.

• Contribute technical content to proposals, scopes of work, and work plans for AlphaGov.

• Clearly document methodologies and recommendations in a defensible manner.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in compensation, classification, or HR consulting.

• Direct experience conducting compensation and classification studies for municipalities, counties, public utilities, or similar government entities.

• Proven experience in developing pay plans and salary structures for the public sector.

• Strong knowledge of FLSA regulations.

• Experience with job analysis, market surveys, internal equity assessments, and pay compression analysis.

• Exceptional writing, presentation, and stakeholder facilitation skills.

• Proficiency in advanced Excel or similar tools.

• Certifications such as CCP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar (preferred).

• Experience in presenting at public meetings or to elected officials (preferred).

• Familiarity with utility or special-district studies (preferred).

• Understanding of public-sector collective bargaining (preferred).
