Senior Public Policy and Government Affairs Manager

📋 Description

• Serve as a direct representative of Samsara in Congressional matters.

• Establish and nurture relationships with Congressional members, committee personnel, and designated federal agency officials.

• Recognize and create formula funding, grant, appropriations-language, and other programmatic avenues for Public Sector Sales.

• Maintain a prioritized list of opportunities with recommendations based on market potential, feasibility, timing, and pursuit costs.

• Collaborate with Public Sector Sales by offering legislative and funding insights to support pipeline and go-to-market strategies.

• Keep track of developments within Congress, agencies, and targeted states.

• Assist in shaping Samsara’s overarching policy strategies and priorities.

• Oversee external consultants, including assessing their proposals and recommendations.

• Draft and promote legislative language, funding tasks, letters, testimonies, and other materials related to government affairs.

• Work alongside Legal, Marketing, and Product teams to align advocacy efforts with Samsara’s technology, roadmap, and business objectives.

• Report directly to the Head of Global Public Policy & Government Affairs.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is mandatory.

• Over 8 years of relevant experience in public policy, government affairs, or governmental roles.

• Strong preference for experience focused on appropriations in Capitol Hill or at a federal agency.

• In-house government affairs experience with a company, preferably coordinating with sales, GTM, or revenue teams.

• Extensive, first-hand knowledge of the federal appropriations and budgetary processes.

• Proven history of translating the appropriations process into tangible funding results.

• A track record of proactively generating opportunities.

• Established connections with congressional offices, committee staff, and/or federal agency officials relevant to transportation, infrastructure, or technology funding.

• Demonstrated judgment in evaluating policy or funding opportunities.

• Experience working with external consultants and critically assessing their strategies and proposals.

• Ability to advocate complex policy positions persuasively and diplomatically.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

• Capability to summarize policy issues and advocacy points succinctly.

• Experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

• Ideal candidates will have experience with DOT, surface transportation, infrastructure, public safety funding programs, or state/local technology procurement processes.

• Ability to translate issues between government and business contexts.

• Skill in identifying potential sales-enablement opportunities and obstacles.

• Familiarity with physical operations, transportation, or the public sector technology landscape.
