This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute or assist in assigned product development and formulation initiatives encompassing innovation, renovation, reformulation, line extension, and product optimization.
• Create, enhance, and troubleshoot formulas for powders, capsules, tablets, gummies, stick packs, gels/liquids, functional beverages, and new formats.
• Assess ingredient functionality, dosage strategies, taste, texture, stability, sensory experience, manufacturing feasibility, regulatory aspects, cost, and consumer expectations.
• Collaborate with suppliers, flavor houses, co-manufacturers, and internal teams to produce samples, evaluate prototypes, refine formulas, and address technical challenges.
• Manage assigned tasks through intake, prioritization, dashboard management, and project visibility processes.
• Provide timely updates regarding work progress, risks, decisions, resource requirements, blockers, and milestones.
• Assist with renovation, reformulation, ingredient replacement, alternative sourcing, flavor optimization, sensory troubleshooting, and product performance enhancements.
• Support projects from concept refinement to formulation, sampling, documentation, packaging, commercialization readiness, and transition to Supply Chain.
• Ensure alignment of formula, labeling, claims, documentation, costing, manufacturing feasibility, and production-readiness criteria.
• Engage in sample reviews, flavor panels, technical assessments, formula revisions, and commercialization discussions.
• Maintain precise technical documentation, formula revisions, sample feedback, technical decisions, and project rationale.
• Offer technical insights for ingredient rationale, raw material choices, supplier inputs, claims support, label reviews, change control, SFPs, CVC claims, bills of materials, and finished goods specifications.
• Provide technical formulation assistance for innovation and R&D projects.
• Convert scientific concepts, novel ingredients, and technical hypotheses into practical formulas, samples, development plans, and commercialization paths.
• Assist Education, Brand, Sales, Marketing, and Product teams with formulation and technical product development insights.
• Simplify technical information into internal explanations for product comprehension, launch education, sales training, and product storytelling.
• Act as a subject-matter expert in presentations regarding ingredient selection, formula design, product format, flavor strategy, differentiation, and technical rationale.
• Report to the VP of Product and Education while closely collaborating with Product Development and R&D team members.
• Over 7 years of experience in product development, formulation, R&D, food science, dietary supplements, nutrition, wellness, CPG, or a related field.
• Preferred hands-on formulation experience in dietary supplements, functional foods, powders, capsules, tablets, gummies, stick packs, gels/liquids, beverages, or other regulated consumer product formats.
• Proven ability to take products from concept through formulation, sampling, refinement, troubleshooting, and commercialization support.
• Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, dosage strategies, flavor, texture, sensory evaluation, cost, manufacturing constraints, regulatory considerations, and launch readiness.
• Experience collaborating with suppliers, flavor houses, co-manufacturers, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Product Documentation, Marketing, Sales, and Education teams.
• Strong capability to execute active Product Development tasks and support early-stage innovation.
• Excellent technical problem-solving skills related to formulation, raw materials, sensory, supplier, and commercialization challenges.
• Ability to manage multiple assigned projects, communicate status effectively, and ensure follow-through on deliverables.
• Strong documentation practices and capacity to provide accurate technical inputs for formula records, ingredient rationale, sample feedback, claims support, label reviews, and commercialization transitions.
• Ability to convert technical and scientific information into clear, commercially relevant language.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset, with adaptability to support cross-functional requests, shifting priorities, and broader Product Development team demands.
• Experience with SpecRight, TraceGains, Unifize, Asana, Smartsheet, or similar tools is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field is required.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10–15% of the time.
