Senior Product Manager, Payments Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the gateway strategy and roadmap encompassing card, bank, and alternative payment methods.

• Enhance authorization and payment success rates, as well as improve decline and retry performance, uptime, latency, and processing costs.

• Define gateway APIs, SDKs, hosted payment pages, webhooks, and merchant/MID configurations.

• Lead the evaluation, certification, and launch of processor and acquirer integrations along with network capabilities.

• Convert network specifications and mandates into actionable requirements while ensuring compliance with card brand regulations, PCI DSS, and regional laws.

• Manage authorization, capture, refunds, voids, disputes, chargebacks, settlement, and the transfer of transaction data to ledger and reconciliation.

• Collaborate with risk, compliance, and payment operations teams.

• Guide engineering teams and supervise execution across pods, focusing on requirements, architecture, reliability, platform design, SDLC, and success metrics.

• Implement ML and agentic methods for optimizing retries, analyzing declines, detecting anomalies, managing incidents, and supporting partner integrations.

• Act as the internal expert on gateway architecture, payment processing, and network regulations; educate teams, brief executives, and represent the platform externally.

• Work in partnership with engineering, go-to-market teams, processing partners, developers, ERP partners, ledger teams, and finance teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in payments or fintech product management, including a minimum of 3 years managing a payment gateway, processing, orchestration, or PSP platform from end to end.

• Developed or significantly scaled a gateway; delivered gateway capabilities in production rather than solely integrating a third-party gateway.

• Extensive knowledge of authorization flows, ISO 8583, tokenization, capture and settlement, chargebacks, interchange, and failover processes.

• Proven track record of achieving measurable improvements in authorization rates, processing costs, uptime, or latency.

• Experience with global payments across North America and international markets, including multi-currency processing and local payment methods.

• Familiarity with PCI DSS, PSD2/SCA, and card brand regulations.

• History of leading engineering pods or squads as a product owner, prioritizing tasks, eliminating obstacles, making architectural trade-offs, and fulfilling commitments.

• Practical experience utilizing LLMs, ML, or agentic systems in payment workflows.
