This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
β’ Take charge of the complete compliance process from the merchant catalog to cleared shipments.
β’ Identify the sources of compliance data, methods of validation and enrichment, storage practices, and declarations.
β’ Decide on the necessary developments, acquisitions, or partnerships for compliance at Portless.
β’ Ensure data quality is treated as a product outcome, focusing on classification coverage and accuracy, declared values, and country of origin.
β’ Develop preventive measures such as intake validation, gating, escalation procedures, and data correction flows for merchants.
β’ Define the compliance product for merchants and articulate their exposure and the value delivered.
β’ Assess market solutions, choose partners, and manage relationships on the product side.
β’ Comprehend and quantify compliance risks associated with orders and their financial implications.
β’ Formulate the compliance strategy and develop a roadmap.
β’ Enhance data quality through metrics owned by the system.
β’ Eliminate manual compliance tasks from operations and customer support.
β’ Empower merchants to view and engage with their compliance status actively.
β’ Position compliance as a compelling value proposition for the sales team.
β’ Collaborate across functions utilizing a single canonical product roadmap.
β’ Produce strategy documents, decision papers, and specifications.
β’ Over 5 years of experience in product management with significant ownership of a complex, data-intensive domain.
β’ Capability to map intricate end-to-end processes, data origins, degradation points, and leverage opportunities.
β’ Proficiency in using data to substantiate claims against actual results.
β’ Background in making and overseeing build-versus-buy assessments.
β’ Excellent written communication skills; producing strategy documents, decision papers, and specifications is a core responsibility.
β’ Capacity to adapt and modify positions based on evidence.
β’ Experience in cross-border commerce, logistics, fulfillment, supply chain, or a related field.
β’ Strategic-level expertise in compliance, covering classification, declared value, duties, and destination requirements.
β’ Adequate compliance knowledge to collaborate effectively with partners, carriers, and internal specialists.
β’ Willingness to engage closely with merchants, warehouse operations, China operations, and escalations.
β’ Ability to work collaboratively with product, engineering, finance, operations, customer success, and merchants.
β’ Skill in identifying systemic issues arising from individual merchant challenges.
β’ Remote-first work environment.
β’ Significant overlap with Eastern Time hours.
