This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Assume responsibility for a specific product area.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of users, their needs and behaviors, as well as the related organizational, operational, and technical context.
• Convert PLOS objectives into well-defined product outcomes and priorities.
• Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and other team members to investigate issues and validate concepts with users and data.
• Formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and determine the most effective way to gain insights.
• Make informed product decisions by considering evidence, impact, effort, risk, and opportunities.
• Establish success metrics and utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate impact.
• Assist the team in delivering iteratively, learning from outcomes, and adjusting as necessary.
• Clearly communicate problems, evidence, decisions, trade-offs, and lessons learned.
• Establish feedback mechanisms through discussions, demonstrations, and reviews.
• Empower designers, engineers, and specialists to participate in product decision-making.
• Grasp the broader service context, including processes, systems, and teams beyond the product interface.
• A degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of three years' experience as a Product Manager in a multidisciplinary digital product team.
• Proficient in utilizing product discovery alongside delivery, which includes user research, data analysis, experimentation, and hypothesis testing.
• Familiarity with navigating significant uncertainty or ambiguity.
• Ability to simplify complex problems into clear priorities, outcomes, and actionable next steps.
• Experience in making product decisions based on user evidence, data, organizational goals, technical constraints, and product judgment.
• Capability to articulate product thinking effectively to a diverse audience.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with individuals outside of the immediate product team.
• Experience in scholarly publishing is advantageous but not mandatory.
