Senior Product Engineer – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Develop dependable and scalable product experiences for Flip's AI-driven employee experience platform.

• Take ownership of backend systems and contribute throughout the entire user journey.

• Collaborate with APIs, data models, infrastructure, and enhance product user experience.

• Join a product squad and work alongside designers, product managers, and engineers across backend, frontend, mobile, and AI.

• Comprehend user challenges and assist in shaping product strategies.

• Quickly prototype and validate concepts.

• Utilize AI to connect efforts across frontend, mobile, and infrastructure tasks.

• Implement small, well-organized changes outside the backend stack when necessary.

• Oversee features during rollout and monitor their effects.

• Perform instrumentation, engage in user conversations, or collaborate with Product Management and Customer Success as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in developing SaaS products within Agile frameworks.

• Practical expertise in Kotlin or Java.

• Familiarity with web frameworks like Micronaut or Spring.

• Strong backend expertise coupled with a solid technical foundation.

• Openness to work across the full stack, including web or mobile when required.

• Experience with AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot, or a willingness to adopt them.

• Strong engineering judgment, curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn.

• Proficient in English at a C1 level.

• Legally permitted to work in the European Union or the United Kingdom without visa sponsorship.

• Willingness to take ownership of features during rollout and assess their impact.

• Nice to have: experience collaborating with designers or working from mockups/prototypes.

• Nice to have: experience with instrumentation and experimentation, including A/B testing, Grafana, or Mixpanel.

• Nice to have: experience with Kubernetes and Helm deployment.

• Nice to have: familiarity with PostgreSQL.

• Nice to have: experience with messaging systems like RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka.
