This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Develop design concepts, prototypes, and mockups for mobile and web interfaces tailored to the needs of New Jersey residents.
• Construct visual frameworks that include design sketches, wireframes, journey maps, and other guides for product development.
• Conduct comprehensive user research from start to finish, utilizing modern methodologies and tools to uncover insights and solutions.
• Address complex challenges through human-centered design, agile development methodologies, and data-driven decision-making.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other team members to transform UX/UI designs into products developed iteratively.
• Take into account content requirements and work alongside content designers to ensure clear, user-focused text.
• Engage with a variety of stakeholders and subject matter experts to define new features and refine existing capabilities.
• Facilitate collaborative workshops to convey user needs and engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and inspire modern visual design, UX/UI, and resident research practices within the team and across the State.
• Promote user adoption and engagement while delivering solutions for a diverse audience of New Jersey users.
• Contribute to office-wide initiatives and participate in stand-up meetings.
• Undertake additional responsibilities that advance the mission of the New Jersey Innovation Authority.
• Report directly to the Product Design Director and collaborate with Initiative Directors to ensure alignment with broader initiative strategies.
• Operate independently with a significant degree of autonomy in a startup-like environment.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in product design, UI/UX design, or a related field.
• Prior experience in civic technology is highly preferred.
• A portfolio that showcases product design work, including both the process and final outputs.
• Expert-level proficiency with Figma, encompassing advanced prototyping, design systems, and collaboration tools.
• Experience in iteratively developing digital products or services as part of a cross-functional team.
• Skills in planning and conducting user research through user interviews, usability tests, surveys, and behavioral metrics.
• Ability to define user needs and experience goals using personas, storyboards, scenarios, and flowcharts.
• Proficiency in prototyping designs at various fidelity levels, including wireframes, clickable prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
• Experience in drafting clear English copy or collaborating with content designers.
• Familiarity with working alongside engineers to create live prototypes in code.
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices, with the ability to mentor others.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess authorization to work in the United States.
