Senior Product Counsel, Real Estate Products

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the main legal representative for Zillow’s brokerage operations and serve as the subject matter expert on licensed real estate activities.

• Provide comprehensive product counsel throughout the lifecycle for assigned consumer and/or B2B products.

• Offer guidance on regulatory compliance, data licensing, product design, and commercial agreements.

• Assist the industry affairs team with MLS escalations, emerging industry matters, and strategic initiatives.

• Deliver strategic and practical legal advice for pilot programs, initial issues, and significant initiatives.

• Perform legal risk assessments and present recommendations to senior management.

• Collaborate with privacy, fair housing, finance, compliance, communications, and marketing teams.

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts.

• Manage real estate licensing complaints and investigations.

• Provide on-demand legal assistance to Government Relations, Litigation, Communications, and other shared services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of pertinent experience with a national or regional law firm or in an in-house legal department.

• Significant experience in real estate regulatory and product counseling.

• Juris Doctor (JD) with active state bar admission in at least one jurisdiction.

• Familiarity with real estate regulatory frameworks, MLS policies, and the overall regulatory and industry environment.

• Background in data licensing, marketing, and commercial agreements.

• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.

• Strong drafting and negotiation capabilities.

• Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to independently manage competing and time-sensitive projects.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively across various departments and levels.

• In-house experience at a real estate brokerage or prop tech company is highly preferred.
