This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Prepare, negotiate, and oversee customer-facing agreements for direct-to-consumer sales and fleet transactions.
• Provide guidance on go-to-market strategies for consumer and fleet channels, encompassing pricing, promotions, and program conditions.
• Collaborate with sales teams to structure and document commercial vehicle sales.
• Assist with the legal aspects of Slate’s direct sales model, including e-commerce terms, purchase agreements, and necessary disclosures.
• Offer advice on KYC, anti-money laundering, and legal and regulatory requirements at the transaction level.
• Develop and uphold the legal framework for Slate’s digital retail platform.
• Counsel on terms of use, e-signature and electronic contracting procedures, and point-of-sale disclosures.
• Provide guidance on online payment processing, e-signature validity, and recordkeeping obligations.
• Aid in the testing and implementation of digital retail features while identifying legal and compliance considerations.
• Resolve legal issues arising from changes in the digital retail system in collaboration with IT, Product, and vendors.
• Review and approve marketing, advertising, and promotional content.
• Advise on FTC regulations, state consumer protection laws, and advertising substantiation standards.
• Support influencer, sponsorship, and co-marketing agreements.
• Counsel service and customer support teams on complaints, escalations, and pre-litigation disputes.
• Assist with service policies, warranty terms, and customer communications.
• Create escalation paths, playbooks, and scalable guidance for frontline staff.
• Provide advice on consumer and commercial financing programs.
• Support the design, documentation, and compliance review of optional products.
• Monitor adherence to consumer finance laws, including TILA/Regulation Z and state retail installment sales acts.
• Assist with the strategy and compliance for dealer, financial services, and insurance/optional-products licensing.
• Keep track of state-specific licensing requirements, applications, and renewals.
• Develop repeatable processes and tracking systems for licensing obligations.
• Perform additional duties as necessary as go-to-market legal needs evolve.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, either in-house or at a law firm.
• Significant exposure to commercial contracts, marketing/advertising law, consumer finance, or licensing/regulatory compliance.
• Experience with consumer transactions, retail or e-commerce terms, and/or marketing review is advantageous.
• Familiarity with dealer, finance, or insurance licensing is a plus.
• Ability to rapidly learn new legal subjects.
• Comfort in advising on and establishing processes where no playbook exists in a dynamic startup environment.
• Strong judgment in translating business and marketing objectives into legal risk management and practical advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
