This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Develop a Canadian Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) program primarily from scratch for a major global retailer's Canadian division.
• Collaborate directly with the client's privacy engineering team.
• Facilitate discovery and requirements-gathering sessions with stakeholders across around 10–12 business units.
• Document the systems, processes, and data handling practices of each business unit.
• Create and maintain ROPA entries utilizing established templates.
• Modify existing global ROPA frameworks to align with Canada-specific business practices.
• Monitor and follow up on pending items across more than 24 stakeholders.
• Keep track of what is required, from whom, and the deadlines involved.
• Communicate directly with senior business stakeholders, including contacts at the VP level.
• Engage in daily standups to share progress, plans, and any obstacles.
• Ensure program leadership is included in communications directed towards the business.
• Identify scope boundaries for each ROPA entry and highlight items that exceed the intended process.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in building or maintaining ROPAs within a North American context (US, Canada, Mexico, or similar).
• Previous experience working as a senior analyst or engineer in a privacy or GRC program.
• Proven ability to lead and manage ROPA-building initiatives directly, rather than just contributing as a business subject matter expert.
• Professionalism and comfort in engaging with senior stakeholders, including VPs, without needing guidance on communication style.
• Excellent organizational skills and proactive follow-up practices.
• Capability to track outstanding items in detail for each entry across multiple concurrent stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Quebec Law 25 or similar principle-based privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Ability to work independently with minimal daily oversight while ensuring consistent visibility and communication with leadership.
• Experience establishing a ROPA or privacy program from the ground up in a new market or region is preferred.
• Background in large, complex, multi-line-of-business organizations is preferred.
• Experience in a consulting or client-facing role is preferred.
• Willingness to work within a defined-duration engagement and the flexibility to independently manage your workload is preferred.
