Senior Practice & Ethics Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Act as the Center’s expert on immigration law, legal ethics, and professionalism.

• Offer personalized, confidential advice to AILA members regarding legal ethics, law firm management, marketing, technology, financial management, and immigration careers.

• Conduct research and analyze legal ethics issues faced by members, providing guidance to address ethical dilemmas.

• Create and present articles, publications, educational programs, practice tools, ethics resources, and thought leadership initiatives.

• Recognize emerging needs and challenges faced by members and develop appropriate resources, programs, and solutions.

• Function as the staff liaison and strategic advisor to specific committees.

• Collaborate with the Director to provide guidance on AI, legal technology, and government digitization.

• Co-manage Center staff and take the lead in the absence of the Director.

• Regularly develop and produce key performance indicators.

• Design and deliver original legal education programs at national and chapter conferences.

• Engage in conferences, member events, organizational meetings, and other business travel.

⛳️ Requirements

• A J.D. degree is required.

• Active bar admission in any U.S. jurisdiction is necessary.

• A minimum of 5 years of combined experience in immigration law practice and law practice management.

• Proven experience in law practice management, including running a practice or advising lawyers on operational matters.

• Experience in providing guidance to lawyers on legal ethics issues.

• Ability to effectively work in a remote setting.

• Capability to spend extended periods at a computer workstation and engage in virtual meetings.

• Willingness to work occasional extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

• Availability for occasional travel, which may include domestic or international trips.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

• Submission of a resume and cover letter is required.

• Preferred prior experience in supervisory or talent-development roles, including delegation, coaching, and performance management.

• Prior experience in an association, member-service, or customer-service environment is advantageous.
