Senior Platform Engineer, Medical Devices

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement infrastructure, tools, and pipelines that support the Medical Device product, ranging from embedded Linux field fleets to cloud environments.

• Take ownership of build processes, signing, rollout, rollback, per-device configurations, update mechanisms, recovery procedures, and operational tools for the Linux kiosk fleet.

• Manage CI/CD, test-gated promotions, controlled approvals, and maintain release traceability across both cloud and device software.

• Establish a deployment control plane that allows for reversible and auditable releases.

• Oversee observability, alerting, reliability, backup and recovery, auditability, and security measures.

• Operate the AWS and Terraform infrastructure that supports product and engineering teams.

• Create golden paths and self-service deployment tools for engineers.

• Provide guidance to engineers on complex build and deployment challenges.

• Design, build, test, and sustain high-quality tooling and services for production.

• Automate compliance with regulatory requirements, including traceability, SBOM, artifact signing, audit trails, pipeline security, and device security.

• Translate the needs of Product, Clinical, Regulatory, and InfoSec teams into platform deliverables.

• Assist with clinical studies and regulatory submissions, such as 510(k) and De Novo applications.

• Address the requirements of data-science platforms, including reproducible environments, scalable compute, and dependable model serving.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years in platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering within AWS.

• Staff-level accountability for production CI/CD and release systems for intricate distributed systems that manage sensitive data.

• Strong foundational software engineering skills in Python or Go.

• Proven experience operating Linux-based systems and fleets of networked/IoT devices.

• Familiarity with OTA update strategies.

• Proven ownership of CI/CD and release/promotion systems, including test gating, approvals, and reversible deployments.

• Extensive knowledge of Terraform/Terragrunt.

• Experience with Docker and ECS/Fargate and/or Kubernetes.

• Competency in building observability frameworks using Datadog/CloudWatch.

• Experience managing production systems for monitoring and alerting purposes.

• Prior experience in regulated, safety-critical, high-assurance environments, medical devices, or handling sensitive data is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with Mender or similar embedded-Linux update systems, signed images, and A/B update strategies is preferred.

• Experience delivering Software as a Medical Device throughout its full lifecycle and familiarity with FDA 510(k)/De Novo pathways is desirable.

• Knowledge of designing HIPAA/GDPR-compliant systems, including audit logging, secure data transmission, PKI, device authentication, and threat modeling.

• Background in data engineering or infrastructure support for data-science and ML teams, including data versioning and production model serving.

• Familiarity with secure overlay networks like Tailscale/WireGuard and multi-account/multi-region network designs.

• Experience with GCP or Azure in addition to AWS.

• Familiarity with diagnostic or imaging devices with hardware-in-the-loop or physiological monitoring platforms such as ECG.

• Legally authorized to work in the country where the position is located.
