This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of and enhance the foundational AWS GovCloud infrastructure, which encompasses networking, IAM/account structure, VPC design, and storage.
• Design, provision, and manage data infrastructure, including Amazon MSK, AWS EMR, Aurora, S3, and Glue.
• Oversee Kubernetes cluster architecture, including node groups/autoscaling, upgrades, cluster networking, and security at the cluster level.
• Develop and maintain Terraform Infrastructure-as-Code modules along with remote state management.
• Implement platform reliability practices such as monitoring, alerting, incident response/on-call, capacity planning, and disaster recovery/backup.
• Manage AWS GovCloud cost visibility and optimization.
• Create self-service golden-path tooling and documentation for Data Engineering and DevSecOps teams.
• Independently translate infrastructure requirements into operational infrastructure.
• Offer technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Support the Air Force in the development and operation of modernized applications utilized by warfighters.
• Over 8 years of professional experience in infrastructure/platform engineering, including direct ownership of cloud infrastructure in production environments.
• Extensive knowledge of AWS infrastructure, covering networking, IAM, and VPC design.
• Experience managing Amazon MSK (Kafka), AWS EMR (Spark), Aurora, S3, and Glue at the infrastructure level.
• Proven expertise in managing Kubernetes cluster architecture and operations, including node/cluster scaling, upgrades, networking, and security.
• Strong background in Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, particularly in module design and remote state management.
• Familiarity with monitoring/alerting, on-call incident response, capacity planning, and disaster recovery/backup protocols.
• Proficient in Python and Bash scripting/automation.
• Capability to work independently on clearly defined tasks.
• Ability to mentor less experienced engineers.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Must possess and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance at the necessary level.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with DoD or Intelligence Community programs, AWS GovCloud, FinOps/cost optimization, self-service/golden-path tooling, relevant certifications, informal mentoring or technical leadership, and Kubernetes deployment/orchestration automation tools like Harpoon.
