Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Contribute to decisions regarding system design and architecture, focusing on speed, scalability, maintainability, and security.

• Take ownership of services from their design phase through to production, ensuring they are observable and comply with established Service Level Objectives.

• Implement enhancements to platform reliability, performance, and overall efficiency.

• Enhance infrastructure and operations automation to minimize manual work and boost team productivity.

• Adhere to coding standards and produce well-tested, reusable code.

• Engage with the architecture community to share and adopt best practices.

• Empower AI agents to function as force multipliers within the codebase.

• Ensure services adhere to production-readiness criteria.

• Provide technical estimates and assess feasibility.

• Deliver tasks iteratively, contribute to release planning, and participate in post-release evaluations.

• Identify dependencies within planned tasks.

• Mentor and support engineers through code reviews, pairing, and constructive feedback.

• Participate in on-call rotations and incident management.

• Lead investigations, contribute to post-mortem analyses, and pursue follow-up improvements.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, the Tech Lead, and fellow engineers.

• Align technical delivery with product strategy and effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant professional experience in Platform Engineering with complex, scalable systems.

• Strong practical expertise in AWS and distributed cloud architectures.

• Experience managing production platforms that handle at least 6,000 requests per second.

• Comprehensive understanding of enterprise deployment and maintenance practices, including blue-green deployments.

• Proficiency in Terraform and configuration management tools.

• Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or a comparable language for automation and tooling.

• Extensive experience with Java, C++/#, PHP, or another language, ideally within a substantial object-oriented codebase.

• Practical experience with monitoring and observability tools like DataDog or Prometheus.

• Familiarity with incident and problem management methodologies.

• Solid grasp of distributed systems, microservices, and resilience patterns.

• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS.

• Practical experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.

• Experience in supporting and mentoring engineers through code reviews, pairing, and feedback.

• Experience with agentic AI or a keen interest in leveraging new tools, including agentic AI, to enhance productivity.

• Bonus: experience in chaos engineering and reliability testing.
