This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Direct and manage the complete payroll processing cycle for a varied portfolio of Canadian clients.
• Accurately process payroll cycles on a weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly basis, ensuring timely delivery.
• Oversee new hires, changes in compensation, terminations, ROEs, taxable benefits, statutory holiday pay, commissions, deductions, EHT, WSIB, RRSPs, and other intricate transactions.
• Examine payroll calculations, reconciliations, remittances, filings, and year-end information slips, including T4 and T4A.
• Stay informed about Canadian federal and provincial payroll regulations.
• Proactively identify risks related to compliance, accuracy, timing, and service.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for intricate payroll inquiries, discrepancies, CRA matters, government registrations, and associated issues.
• Cultivate trusted relationships with clients and provide proactive payroll and compliance advice.
• Take ownership of client issues from identification to resolution.
• Conduct thorough reviews and audits of payroll data, reconciliations, deductions, remittances, and reporting.
• Utilize WagePoint and Karbon to enhance accuracy, visibility, efficiency, and communication.
• Identify opportunities for automation or streamlining repetitive payroll tasks.
• Lead initiatives to improve workflows, controls, documentation, and standardized processes.
• Create and maintain payroll SOPs, checklists, training materials, and detailed procedures.
• Act as a payroll subject-matter expert for Cloud Accountants and team members.
• Offer guidance, coaching, and support for payroll inquiries and complex client scenarios.
• Research payroll legislation, CRA guidance, and industry standards, sharing updates with the team.
• Work collaboratively with the Payroll Lead, Cloud Finance Services Team, founders, and clients to enhance service quality and payroll capabilities.
• At least 4–5 years of progressive experience in full-cycle Canadian payroll.
• Preferably experienced in supporting multiple businesses or clients concurrently.
• Capacity to independently manage complex payroll portfolios and resolve escalated issues.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial payroll legislation, tax obligations, remittances, year-end reporting, and government submissions.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities.
• Familiarity with payroll software and cloud-based systems.
• Interest in automation, reporting, and process improvements through technology.
• Ability to build client trust and clearly communicate complex payroll issues.
• Skilled in managing multiple priorities and relationships.
• Comfortable providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to peers.
• Proactive, solutions-focused, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, integrity, and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive payroll and employee data.
• Commitment to staying updated on payroll legislation, CRA guidance, technology, and evolving best practices.
• Display initiative and an entrepreneurial mindset.
• Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an advantage.
• Additional payroll certifications or relevant accounting credentials are beneficial.
• Must reside in and be eligible to work in Canada.
