
Senior Naval STEM Outreach Specialist – ONR Support

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Design and execute comprehensive marketing and outreach initiatives for Naval STEM programs.
• Advocate for internships, scholarships, educational programs, and career opportunities to students, parents, educators, and community organizations.
• Oversee outreach projects from conception to implementation, assessment, and post-campaign evaluation.
• Identify target audiences and customize communications across social media, email, web, print, presentations, partner communications, and in-person outreach.
• Create campaign timelines, editorial calendars, content strategies, and communication schedules.
• Monitor campaign reach, engagement, referrals, event participation, applications, and other performance metrics.
• Evaluate campaign outcomes and audience insights to suggest enhancements.
• Formulate social media strategies, content calendars, platform-specific messaging, calls to action, and student-centric content.
• Assist in managing websites, digital program information, email communications, and online outreach platforms.
• Ensure digital communications adhere to branding, accessibility, public-release, privacy, and Government approval standards.
• Convert scientific, technical, and program information into accessible content for non-technical audiences.
• Write, edit, and review materials such as websites, fact sheets, flyers, brochures, presentations, newsletters, email campaigns, social media content, video scripts, talking points, and event resources.
• Conduct interviews with scientists, engineers, program managers, interns, educators, and stakeholders to generate stories and promotional material.
• Represent Naval STEM programs at conferences, career fairs, competitions, family STEM events, air shows, and other outreach occasions.
• Deliver presentations and respond to inquiries regarding Naval STEM opportunities.
• Coordinate communications with naval laboratories, warfare centers, schools, colleges, universities, associations, and community partners.
• Collect feedback, participation data, photographs, success stories, and additional content from events.
• Maintain campaign schedules, content trackers, stakeholder contact databases, approval documentation, and outreach metrics.
• Prepare reports on campaigns and events, including lessons learned and suggested improvements.
• Manage multiple campaigns, tasks, deadlines, and stakeholder evaluations.
• Utilize Microsoft 365 applications for content creation, collaboration, tracking, reporting, and document management.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, a STEM field, or a closely related area, with a minimum of five years of applicable professional experience; or a master’s degree in one of these disciplines with at least two years of relevant work experience.
• Relevant background in marketing, outreach, public relations, digital communications, social media, content development, science communication, editing, or a related field.
• Proven experience in developing or supporting marketing, communications, or outreach campaigns.
• Professional experience in creating content for social media or other digital platforms.
• Ability to convey scientific, technical, educational, or program information to students or other non-technical audiences.
• Strong skills in writing, editing, proofreading, presenting, and verbal communication.
• Experience in coordinating content or campaigns with various stakeholders.
• Capability to communicate professionally with students, families, educators, technical experts, government personnel, and community partners.
• Ability to manage various assignments, deadlines, reviews, and campaign schedules effectively.
• Capacity to work independently, apply sound judgment, identify outreach or communication needs, and propose solutions with minimal supervision.
• Willingness and capability to travel to approximately 10–20 events annually, which may include occasional overnight, multi-day, evening, or weekend engagements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Excel.
• Current SECRET clearance or the ability to acquire and maintain the necessary clearance within the specified timeframe.
