This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Design and develop HVAC systems and heat rejection solutions for data centers, focusing on both air-cooled and direct-fluid-cooled applications.
• Choose suitable air and water cooling systems, which may include fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment strategies.
• Execute internal CFD simulations to enhance airflow, assess transient conditions, pinpoint hotspots, and boost cooling effectiveness.
• Perform external CFD analyses for standalone buildings and campus-wide systems.
• Prepare or oversee the preparation of CFD models and analyze the results to suggest design alterations.
• Coordinate design modifications and their effects with other project teams.
• Create redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems that encompass backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring solutions.
• Conduct heat load assessments and capacity planning considering IT equipment, power density, growth, and project phases.
• Calculate HVAC loads for administrative and common areas.
• Implement energy-efficient HVAC strategies, incorporating economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery, and airflow optimization techniques.
• Develop filtration and air quality monitoring systems to safeguard sensitive IT equipment.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to align HVAC systems with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other essential systems.
• Engage in hands-on, client-facing roles on high-profile, fast-paced data center projects.
• Work collaboratively with global AECOM teams on data center initiatives for clients around the world.
• A Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or a proven equivalent in experience and/or education.
• Experience in the installation and operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.
• P.E. registration is mandatory.
• Capability to work remotely from various U.S. locations where AECOM has offices.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Familiarity with data center TER Standard Topology according to Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002.
• A preferred Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• A Master's degree or advanced studies in HVAC systems or energy management is preferred.
• CEM, BEMP, or LEED professional certifications are beneficial.
