Senior Mechanical Engineer, Data Centers

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Create and design heat rejection and HVAC systems specifically for data centers.

• Choose air and water-side cooling systems, such as fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions.

• Perform internal and external CFD simulations to enhance airflow, pinpoint hotspots, analyze transient periods, and assess interactions among campus-wide components.

• Prepare or oversee the preparation of CFD models and analyze the results to suggest design improvements.

• Collaborate on design changes and their impacts with other project teams.

• Design HVAC systems that are redundant and fault-tolerant, incorporating backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring systems.

• Conduct heat load calculations and capacity planning based on IT equipment, power density, growth, and phased construction and operations.

• Calculate HVAC loads for administrative and shared facility areas.

• Implement energy-efficient HVAC strategies, including economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery systems, and airflow optimization.

• Design filtration and air quality monitoring systems to safeguard sensitive IT equipment.

• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure HVAC integration with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other critical systems.

• Engage in a hands-on, client-facing role on prominent data center projects for international clients.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree with over 8 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

• Experience in the installation and operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.

• P.E. registration is mandatory.

• Eligibility to work in the United States.

• Understanding of data center, mission-critical, and technology-sector requirements.

• Familiarity with data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002.

• A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field is typically preferred.

• A master’s degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management is preferred.

• HVAC-related certifications such as CEM, BEMP, or LEED accreditation are beneficial.
