This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Utilize engineering methodologies to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test tools, engines, machines, and mechanically functioning equipment.
• Provide leadership and assistance in the mechanical design, testing, and production of electrical machines.
• Create electronic packaging solutions for high-altitude aerospace applications.
• Lead or assist in the development of mechanical packaging for electronic equipment that meets mass, volume, thermal, and vibration requirements.
• Oversee mid-sized development projects that are outsourced to subcontractors.
• Direct or assist in thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid-flow analysis for electronic equipment.
• Conduct testing and data collection in both laboratory and field settings.
• Model mechanical devices and choose suitable materials.
• Execute stress, fatigue, and thermal analyses; select appropriate bonding materials.
• Create mechanical drawings and define dimensional tolerances.
• Formulate assembly instructions, test plans, and testing procedures.
• Coordinate the activities of other team members when acting as Team Lead.
• Complete tasks according to timelines, milestones, and available resources.
• A minimum of 8–12 years of pertinent technical experience in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in developing production rotating electrical machines, electronics equipment packaging solutions, and/or mechanical device solutions for industrial and aerospace sectors.
• Experience in developing mechanical subsystem requirements specifications in accordance with MIL-STD 961D or an equivalent standard.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for mechanical modeling.
• Proficiency in ANSYS for structural and fatigue analysis.
• Proficiency in ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis.
• Extensive experience with SolidWorks and the design of electrical rotating machines for high-performance applications.
• In-depth experience with thermal management trade-offs, solutions, and material properties.
• Experience with bonding techniques suitable for extreme environmental conditions using various adhesives.
• Familiarity with manufacturing methodologies applicable to electrical machines.
• Experience in creating and maintaining product document trees.
• Experience in creating and maintaining product bills of materials (BOMs).
• Familiarity with test and measurement techniques, including torque transducer calibration and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 or DO-160 standards.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD 961D standards or equivalent for subsystem technical specifications.
• Strong grasp of engineering principles relevant to the technical discipline.
• Capability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Eligibility for ITAR/EAR compliance as a U.S. person or eligibility for an export license; some roles may require current U.S. citizenship.
• Capacity to work in both office and production environments.
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods and use computer and telephone keyboards.
• A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Recognition by a reputable international engineering society, such as ASME, at a senior membership level or higher, is desirable.
