This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assess and analyze the mechanical design of hydro turbines and associated components.
• Execute and evaluate mechanical calculations related to structural integrity, vibration, fatigue, and hydraulic loads.
• Conduct or supervise FEA and CFD simulations using ANSYS or equivalent software.
• Assist with condition assessments, refurbishments, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
• Draft and review technical specifications, calculation documentation, design reports, and schematics.
• Aid in the selection and sizing of turbine equipment and supplementary mechanical systems.
• Analyze vendor proposals and engage in technical bid evaluations.
• Review and validate manufacturer documentation and fabrication drawings.
• Lead or assist in turbine commissioning activities, including installation oversight, testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
• Resolve mechanical and operational challenges during commissioning and operational phases.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, and controls engineers on integrated hydropower plant designs.
• Ensure adherence to IEC, ASME, and other pertinent international standards.
• Compile technical reports and inspection documentation.
• Provide construction support via submittal reviews, site inspections, and quality assurance activities.
• Participate in virtual and in-person client meetings.
• Travel as necessary, typically not exceeding 15% of the time.
• Support client hydro assets through mechanical evaluations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, maintenance planning and execution, and asset performance enhancement.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, preferably with a focus on stress analysis, mechanical design, or turbomachinery.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in hydropower.
• Extensive background in hydro turbine design and engineering, fleet engineering, commissioning, and/or operational roles.
• Experience in turbine commissioning and performance testing.
• Practical experience with FEA and/or CFD software utilized for hydro machinery.
• Strong knowledge of rotor dynamics and the mechanical behavior of rotating equipment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing capabilities.
• Willingness to travel for site inspections and commissioning tasks.
• Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
• Familiarity with BOP systems, such as lubrication systems, hydraulic power units, and compressed-air systems.
• Experience with fatigue analysis, welding, and cavitation.
• Experience in designing or analyzing penstocks, spherical valves, and butterfly valves is advantageous.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other 2D and 3D modeling software is preferred.
