Senior Manager, Technical Program Management, Data, Reliability & Developer Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead a team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs) overseeing cross-organizational initiatives in Data Infrastructure, Reliability Engineering, and Developer Experience.

• Collaborate with teams in data, infrastructure, and product to create solutions that enhance the robustness, availability, and transparency of the Airbnb platform.

• Work alongside senior individual contributors and engineering directors to refine processes, strategies, and execution plans.

• Shape the technical vision while addressing stakeholder requirements and upholding quality standards.

• Manage phased rollouts and extensive platform migrations from pilot stages to full adoption and eventual deprecation.

• Establish measurable success metrics, including availability and Service Level Objectives (SLOs), continuous integration and merge latency, cost per workload, and adoption rates.

• Evaluate risks and opportunities and devise mitigation strategies.

• Ensure transparent communication with stakeholders throughout all processes.

• Deliver presentations on outcomes, updates, trade-offs, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.

• Recruit, develop, and mentor senior TPMs while setting operational standards for planning, execution, and portfolio reporting.

• Guide infrastructure programs that support AI-driven scalability, AI-ready data platforms, and autonomous developer workflows.

• Collaborate with engineering and finance teams on infrastructure efficiency, utilization, cost attribution, and cost reduction initiatives.

• Spearhead cross-organizational reliability programs, including incident review follow-through, SLO adoption, and deployment safety rollouts.

• Oversee Infrastructure planning processes, including Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), roadmap evaluations, and dependency mapping.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in technical program management, software engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

• 5+ years of experience in leading and mentoring TPMs or managing teams of TPMs.

• Proven ability to navigate through ambiguity and drive initiatives to successful completion.

• Strong technical expertise in at least two of the following areas: distributed data systems (such as Spark, Trino, Flink/Kafka, Iceberg); Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure; observability platforms; or CI/CD, build systems, and monorepos.

• A history of leading multi-quarter, multi-team platform migrations or deprecations at scale.

• Flexibility to adapt and collaborate with teams operating on different cadences.

• Strong business acumen, analytical skills, accountability, data-driven decision making, and the ability to influence outcomes.

• Experience in delivering infrastructure for AI workloads or AI-enhanced engineering.

• Familiarity with progressive delivery methods, including canary releases and automated rollback practices, SLOs, error budgets, and incident management.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.

• Candidates must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. is registered.
