Senior Manager, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assemble and oversee highly motivated, high-performing software engineering teams.

• Recruit, mentor, and inspire staff members.

• Manage budgeting and planning within the designated area of responsibility.

• Collaborate with product managers to assess effort, prioritize the roadmap, plan, and deliver roadmap objectives.

• Convert product requirements into robust, modular, configurable, reusable, fast, user-friendly, secure, compliant, scalable, and maintainable designs.

• Lead teams in a hands-on manner to deliver new or enhanced features and resolve delivery challenges.

• Work with teams and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

• Review product requirements, designs, and code for quality assurance and compliance with best practices.

• Ensure application systems are secure, compliant, efficient, and up-to-date.

• Identify opportunities for system and process improvements.

• Advocate for new features, significant refactors or migrations, and process changes.

• Utilize CI/CD and process optimization to enhance time to market.

• Stay informed about industry trends and promote the adoption of best practices.

• Contribute to the development of Mercury’s technical vision, strategy, and innovation for application systems.

• Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a leadership and management role.

• Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing digital experiences across various surfaces or channels.

• Strong background in full-stack product engineering.

• Experience in utilizing existing backend APIs and defining contracts between frontend and platform.

• Proven experience in developing reusable frameworks or components.

• Experience in the insurance domain is a plus.

• Established ability to promote engineering best practices, operational excellence, and organizational discipline across teams.

• Skilled in building and managing large, high-performing software engineering teams.

• Experienced in recruiting and developing next-level managers and leaders.

• Proficient in project management, encompassing estimating, planning, executing, tracking, and reporting progress.

• Capable of leading multiple engineering teams across mobile, web, backend, data, and various technology stacks.

• Experienced in designing and implementing distributed application systems.

• Proficient with APIs, messaging, data streaming, workflow, integration frameworks, microservices, containers, and cloud computing.

• Experience in maximizing the use of open-source libraries.

• Experienced in implementing DevSecOps practices.

• Knowledgeable in leveraging analytics data and experimentation.

• Experienced in leading transformative initiatives, including digital transformation, omni-channel implementation, legacy migration, cloud transformation, modernization, product development, and AI/ML adoption.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong capability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

• Experienced in operational excellence, quality assurance, performance, scalability, maintainability, and observability.

• Proven track record in driving technical strategy, vision, and innovation.

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science preferred.

• Experience in building software for the P&C Insurance Business preferred.
