Senior Manager, Engineering – Container Product Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and oversee the Container Product Engineering team consisting of approximately fifteen engineers.

• Establish clear objectives, manage performance, and maintain a healthy operational rhythm.

• Organize the team into smaller sub-groups of two to four engineers, each with distinct project ownership.

• Mentor Staff and Principal engineers, provide feedback, develop career paths, address underperformance, and collaborate with Recruiting on hiring efforts.

• Work alongside Product Managers and Technical Program Managers to translate requirements into tangible outcomes and projects.

• Ensure requirements and design documents are prepared before development cycles and shield the team from mid-cycle disruptions.

• Review designs and pull requests, making or delegating final decisions on disputed technical matters.

• Read code, review pull requests, and occasionally contribute to shipping processes.

• Champion the adoption of agentic coding tools across design, implementation, review, and operations while implementing safety guardrails.

• Plan work and staffing, commit to deadlines, report on status, and escalate risks as necessary.

• Collaborate with Guarded OS, Customer Platform, Developer Platform, Sales, Customer Success, Support, and customers.

• Expand responsibilities across the Containers organization as the product and team evolve.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in managing engineering teams that develop customer-facing products.

• Proven experience leading senior engineers, including Staff and Principal levels, within a team of ten or more.

• Background in delivering features to paying customers in a hyper-growth environment.

• Ability to transform ambiguous product goals into clear technical plans.

• Strategic mindset with the capacity to scale alongside a product during hyper-growth phases.

• Experience in planning capacity and headcount in advance and aligning technical initiatives with business goals.

• Hands-on, organized, and action-oriented approach.

• Proficiency in reading code and reviewing pull requests.

• Strong communication skills, both upward and outward, with a proactive style.

• Proven history of hiring, mentoring, promoting, retaining top engineers, and effectively addressing underperformance.

• Regular use of agentic coding tools and experience guiding a team in adapting to these tools.

• Technical knowledge of containers, container registries, OCI image format, Kubernetes, Go services, and cloud infrastructure on GCP or AWS.

• Familiarity with Linux distribution or packaging is a plus.

• Experience leading a distributed, remote-first team across North America and Europe.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Preference for candidates located in North America or the United Kingdom.
