This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the Database Platform team that is responsible for the data infrastructure supporting NodeZero pentests, findings, and reports.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of around eight engineers, including a Principal Engineer.
• Cultivate database engineering standards and foster a culture of ownership.
• Collaborate with the Principal Engineer to define the technical roadmap for NodeZero’s data platform.
• Establish standards for schema design, query patterns, migration strategies, and scalability principles.
• Take responsibility for SLOs related to database availability, query latency, and data integrity across production environments.
• Enhance on-call maturity and improve the quality of runbooks.
• Create processes for schema reviews and set standards for data modeling.
• Ensure the data model evolves smoothly as new pentest capabilities are introduced.
• Work alongside Data Ingestion, Security Research, and API Platform teams on data contracts, API design, and pipeline dependencies.
• Convert data platform requirements from Security Research and Product into a prioritized engineering roadmap.
• Develop the Database Platform team into a fully staffed, top-tier data platform organization.
• Proven experience leading teams that design, scale, and manage relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and hybrid data stores in production environments.
• Experience in defining schema migration strategies for high-velocity production settings with zero-downtime requirements.
• Familiarity with multi-tenant data architectures, customer data isolation, row-level security, and data residency issues.
• Strong knowledge of query optimization, indexing techniques, EXPLAIN analysis, and connection pooling.
• Experience in building or significantly enhancing an engineering team, including recruitment and onboarding processes.
• Proven ability to establish engineering norms, schema review processes, data integrity standards, operational runbooks, and on-call rotations.
• Capability to influence architectural decisions through design documents, structured reviews, and consensus-building activities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a Principal Engineer.
• Extensive proficiency in Go, Python, or SQL.
• Production experience with PostgreSQL at scale, including partitioning, logical replication, pg_bouncer/pgpool, and read replicas.
• Experience with AWS data services such as RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, or ElastiCache.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized database operations, including stateful workload management.
• Familiarity with graph databases or time-series stores is considered a strong advantage.
• A background in cybersecurity data, threat intelligence feeds, or vulnerability databases is a plus.
• Experience with SOC 2, FedRAMP, or GDPR/CCPA data handling requirements is a nice to have.
• Familiarity with BI tools, OLAP workloads, or customer-facing analytics is a nice to have.
• Experience managing databases in multi-region or active-active configurations is a nice to have.
• Up to 5% travel may be necessary.
