Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Deliver timely, proactive, and commercially oriented legal counsel on commercial matters.

• Draft and negotiate contracts, provide guidance on high-value transactions and strategic initiatives, prepare correspondence, and assist in dispute resolution.

• Collaborate with Aviation Growth & Group Strategy, Commercial, Operations, and other business units.

• Negotiate directly with counterparties and their legal representatives.

• Identify, evaluate, and manage legal risks associated with Sydney Airport operations and strategic initiatives.

• Advise on technology, data-sharing, consumer laws, and marketing activities.

• Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes and offer practical advice.

• Conduct training sessions, workshops, and presentations to enhance legal awareness.

• Review and revise legal precedents and templates in accessible language.

• Oversee external legal advisors, monitor legal expenditures, and ensure matters are handled cost-effectively.

• Contribute to ongoing improvements within the Legal function and broader business processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree.

• Valid practising certificate.

• Extensive post-admission legal experience, preferably 7+ years.

• Proficient in commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and advisory roles.

• Experience in supporting senior stakeholders and delivering practical legal advice in a commercial setting.

• Experience in an in-house legal team or as a secondee in a commercial organization is highly valued.

• Strong commercial judgment with the ability to balance business goals against legal and regulatory risks.

• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

• Capacity to manage competing priorities and stakeholder demands in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to cultivate trusted relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
