This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more states.
• Act as the legal business partner for the Khan Kids product, engineering, and international programs teams, offering primary legal and regulatory advice on new features and products.
• Provide legal guidance throughout the product lifecycle, from conception to launch, emphasizing privacy-by-design principles, age-appropriate content and data practices, and responsible AI usage in products for children.
• Counsel on compliance with children's privacy regulations such as COPPA, GDPR, age-appropriate design standards, and regional data protection laws.
• Draft, review, and revise terms of service, privacy policies, and parental consent procedures.
• Evaluate tax, business registration, and digital services legislation for international markets.
• Collaborate with local legal advisors in targeted jurisdictions.
• Create compliance manuals, contract templates, and internal training resources.
• Work with cross-functional teams to develop legally compliant, child-focused user experiences.
• Address additional legal issues from a global viewpoint.
• Report directly to the General Counsel.
• Over 8 years of legal experience advising on consumer-facing websites or applications within global markets.
• Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar association.
• Proven ability to independently manage legal workstreams across product, privacy, and international regulatory issues.
• Extensive experience in consumer-product privacy compliance, privacy initiatives, user-facing legal documentation, and privacy-by-design practices.
• In-depth knowledge of children's privacy issues, including COPPA, GDPR, age-appropriate design codes, or similar frameworks; or a demonstrated commitment to developing such expertise.
• Experience in navigating international regulatory environments and market-entry requirements.
• Proficient in translating regulatory obligations into practical product guidance.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate and communicate legal and business risks effectively.
• Experience in building cross-functional relationships and influencing product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and ambiguous setting.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• A passion for early childhood education and products that serve young children and families.
• Cross-cultural awareness and inclusive perspectives.
• Preferred: CIPP or similar privacy/data-security certification.
• Preferred: Experience in AI governance, responsible AI, or AI regulatory frameworks.
