Senior Geological/Geotechnical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.

📋 Description

• Serve as a project engineer or geoscientist and provide technical leadership for designated aspects of mining and/or transportation projects.

• Oversee project management activities, which include proposals, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and scope management.

• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams, potentially operating in challenging and remote environments.

• Travel as necessary, which may involve extended shifts at remote locations.

• Plan and supervise field programs, including geohazard site investigations, mitigation design, and construction monitoring.

• Write or co-author technical reports.

• Train, mentor, and oversee the technical work of junior and intermediate staff members.

• Collaborate with client and partner representatives.

• Assist in recruiting efforts for junior and intermediate staff positions.

• Travel to other BGC offices to enhance team connectivity and engage in business development and planning activities.

• Participate in business development by identifying opportunities, promoting BGC's capabilities, and preparing proposals.

• Advocate for BGC’s vision, values, and culture among staff.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10 to 20 years of pertinent professional experience in engineering or geoscience, including engineering consulting.

• A post-graduate degree in a relevant field, such as Geotechnical or Civil Engineering.

• Must be registered as a professional engineer in the state of Alaska (PE).

• Possess technical expertise and project management experience in the mining and/or transportation sectors.

• Knowledge of cold regions and permafrost engineering and scientific principles.

• Familiarity with geotechnical software such as SLOPE/W, Slide2, RSPile, LPile, PLAXIS, TEMP/W, FLAC, or similar tools.

• Proven experience in mentoring, delegating, and supervising junior and intermediate staff.

• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

• Existing Canadian Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) registration or eligibility for registration within 3 years (preferred).

• Experience with cold regions engineering principles and practices, including frost heave, permafrost, thermal design, monitoring, and analysis (preferred).

• Background in designing deep and shallow foundations, slope stability analysis, slope stabilization, and/or earth retention (preferred).

• Valid driver's license and capability to operate a field pickup truck.

• Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing as required for field work.

• Willingness to receive necessary travel or client vaccinations.

• Possession of a current passport.
