Senior FX Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Conceptualize and produce intricate visual simulations, including fire, smoke, fluids, destruction, and both magical and abstract effects.

• Create simulations that adhere to both artistic and technical standards.

• Utilize Houdini (Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum, SOPs) to craft optimized and flexible effects.

• Take full ownership of FX assignments, managing the process from initial setup to final rendering.

• Conduct quality assurance on files, caches, and workfiles prior to submission.

• Suggest artistic approaches that align with the project's overall vision.

• Engage in daily meetings and implement received feedback.

• Modify effects to suit narrative needs, visual aesthetics, and scene pacing.

• Enhance caches and maintain stability throughout setups.

• Detect and troubleshoot technical challenges.

• Work alongside the Pipeline team to incorporate or evaluate new tools.

• Confirm that effects are compatible with layout, lighting, and compositing.

• Provide estimates, highlight potential scheduling issues, and collaborate with Production on priorities.

• Take part in turnovers, briefings, and progress assessments.

• Share expertise and assist in the development of FX documentation and process enhancements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive knowledge in high-end photorealistic visual effects.

• A minimum of 10 years of FX experience in a VFX studio is preferred.

• Advanced skills in Houdini (Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum, SOPs).

• Basic familiarity with compositing (Nuke) and rendering (Arnold and Karma).

• Understanding of USD and Solaris.

• Solid grasp of motion, physics, and visual rhythm.

• Highly organized, self-driven, detail-focused, and a team player.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Flow Production Tracking.

• Preferred: Experience in developing Houdini tools.

• Preferred: Scripting experience in Python or VEX.
