Senior FPGA Engineer – RF/Comm Systems/Simulink

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team that includes RF, DSP, firmware, FPGA, software, and testing to create embedded processing solutions for communications and networking.

• Implement and enhance the lifecycle of FPGA firmware development, starting from MATLAB/Simulink algorithms and requirements definition through architecture, design, development, implementation, testing, integration, support, and sustainment.

• Create and refine product development workflows and best practices throughout the HDL firmware lifecycle, including architecture, design, simulation, verification, and system testing.

• Design microprocessor ICDs to facilitate communication between FPGA and message/data handling systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

• Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional hardware and/or embedded systems product development teams, guiding firmware and software from initial concept to production.

• Over 6 years of experience in designing, implementing, and verifying FPGA-based systems utilizing VHDL or Verilog.

• Proficient in using code-generators to convert MATLAB/Simulink algorithms into FPGA implementations.

• Skilled in C and C++ programming languages.

• Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).

• Knowledgeable about common MCU, CPU, and FPGA devices and technologies.

• Acquainted with standard interfaces including Ethernet, I2C, SPI, PCIe, and USB.

• Experience with flight software architectures and the development processes for embedded systems.

• Competent in using fundamental electrical engineering test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators, as well as testing PCBAs.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

• Preferred: Experience in wireless communications systems.

• Preferred: Expertise in computer networking.

• Preferred: Familiarity with AI-generated software tools like CoPilot, Claude, and Code-GPT.

• Preferred: Experience in implementing enhanced security measures.

• Preferred: Understanding of high-reliability aerospace designs.

• Preferred: Knowledge of aircraft systems architectures, particularly redundant systems.

• Preferred: Familiarity with DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, and DO-311A standards.

• Preferred: Understanding of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, and MIL-STD-461 standards.

• Preferred: Experience in designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board designs within communications systems.
