Senior Field Service Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Conduct installation, startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical power distribution equipment.

• Execute field service tasks on low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and power management systems.

• Identify equipment and system malfunctions and take corrective measures.

• Assist with retrofits, upgrades, modernization initiatives, and emergency service requests.

• Create electrical drawings, schematics, and bills of material as needed.

• Provide outstanding customer service while fostering strong customer relationships.

• Compile service reports, commissioning documentation, and customer records.

• Carry out engineering preparations remotely and perform installations at customer locations.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, along with over 8 years of field service or engineering experience in electrical power distribution systems.

• Additional formal education may be accepted as a substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

• In-depth knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.

• Experience in commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment.

• Mechanical and Electrical Testing of Low- and Medium-Voltage Equipment.

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection/control diagrams.

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

• Valid driver's license and readiness to travel up to 70% of the time.

• Candidates must possess work authorization permitting employment with ABB in the United States.

• Preferred: experience and knowledge of Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), generator control systems, PLC and HMI platforms, and protective relays.

• Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

• Preferred: experience in commissioning, maintaining, or troubleshooting power distribution equipment within industrial, utility, commercial, or data center settings.
