This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Prepare and document cost estimates and execution strategies for construction projects.
• Calculate cost estimates for raw materials, equipment that is purchased or leased, subcontracted tasks, and labor during the bidding process.
• Engage in MEP, Civil, and Architectural subcontract-package design evaluations with client stakeholders.
• Develop sketches, drawings, and specifications; assess blueprints and associated documentation.
• Conduct value engineering and take part in constructability assessments during the preconstruction phase.
• Generate detailed cost budgets for projects that have been successfully bid.
• Gather and maintain a historical cost database to aid in estimating future work.
• Supervise projects that have been successfully bid and are under construction to understand field-operation techniques and actual costs.
• Execute quantity takeoffs and unit pricing through estimating software.
• Acquire pricing from vendors and suppliers.
• Request scopes of work and quotations from subcontractors.
• Keep material pricing information updated in the estimating database.
• Cultivate expertise in construction methods and their impact on project costs.
• Participate in turnover meetings with Project Management regarding successful bids.
• Conduct site visits for more intricate tenders as necessary.
• Manage the tender closing process, which includes document review, proposal assembly, and closing discussions.
• Address addendums, change orders, and related issues.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
• Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a comparable mix of training.
• A minimum of 5–8 years of experience in estimating and working on medium to large-sized construction projects of medium to high complexity.
• Strong understanding of technical aspects of the construction industry, including procurement methods, value management, and value engineering.
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Project, Autodesk (AutoCAD), Bluebeam, P6, InEight (Hard Dollar), or similar estimating software.
• Solid knowledge of project controls, encompassing costs and scheduling, as well as general construction project requirements.
• Previous experience in conceptual estimating or a solid understanding of it.
• Highly skilled in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
• Comprehensive understanding of contract language, terms and conditions, bonding, etc.
• Outstanding organizational abilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with subtrades.
• U.S. citizenship is required to comply with nuclear facility access and security clearance eligibility criteria.
• RICS accreditation or AACE certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Experience in commercial nuclear or Federal work is a bonus.
