Senior Engineering Manager – Product Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead, nurture, and expand a team of backend and platform engineers focusing on API and usage/consumption domains.

• Take ownership of delivery, ensuring roadmap commitments, execution quality, and reliable outcomes for platforms serving numerous internal and external users.

• Direct the strategy for usage metering and AI credit accounting, emphasizing accuracy, auditability, latency, and cost of the pipeline.

• Collaborate with Product to design a platform roadmap that aligns with product and customer requirements.

• Recruit top-tier engineers, establish a robust hiring pipeline, and elevate standards with each new offer.

• Maintain API governance, versioning strategies, and ensure backward compatibility.

• Ensure operational excellence, focusing on SLOs, observability, on-call health, and incident resolution.

• Collaborate with Finance, RevOps, and Pricing regarding consumption models, entitlements, quotas, overages, and reporting.

• Clarify ambiguous, cross-team challenges and translate them into actionable tasks.

• Develop senior individual contributors and tech leads, making succession and technical ownership clear.

• Effectively communicate technical trade-offs and risks to engineering and business stakeholders across various time zones.

• Remain technically engaged to partake in design discussions, evaluate architecture, and question decisions when necessary.

• Collaborate with Principal Engineers to establish long-term technical strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience managing backend or platform engineering teams, encompassing hiring, performance management, and career advancement.

• Strong hands-on engineering experience in backend or distributed systems prior to management, with the ability to engage credibly in design and code reviews today.

• Familiarity with product platforms or shared services utilized by multiple product teams.

• Proven record of delivering and operating APIs at scale, with a solid foundation in RESTful API design.

• Experience with data-intensive systems, including high-volume event ingestion, aggregation, and reporting.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and influence technical direction across teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Nice to have: Experience with consumption or usage-based business models, including metering, rating, entitlements, quotas, and billing integrations.

• Nice to have: Experience in AI cost, token, or credit accounting systems.

• Nice to have: Background in building or facilitating agentic and AI-driven workflows, including orchestration, state management, and integration patterns.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar agent integration methodologies.

• Nice to have: Some experience with GraphQL.

• Nice to have: Exposure to large-scale, distributed systems environments.

• Nice to have: Experience collaborating closely with Platform and SRE teams.

• Nice to have: Leadership experience with globally distributed teams.
