Senior Engineering Manager – Product Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead, expand, and nurture a team of backend and platform engineers focusing on API and usage/consumption sectors.

• Take ownership of delivery: ensuring roadmap commitments, execution quality, and reliable outcomes for platforms utilized by numerous internal and external consumers.

• Direct the strategy for usage metering and AI credit accounting, emphasizing accuracy, auditability, latency, and the cost associated with the metering pipeline.

• Collaborate with Product to craft a platform roadmap that addresses genuine product and customer needs.

• Recruit top-tier engineers, establish a robust talent pipeline, and consistently elevate standards with each hiring decision.

• Maintain API governance, versioning strategies, and ensure backward compatibility.

• Own the pursuit of operational excellence: focusing on SLOs, observability, on-call health, and effective incident resolution.

• Collaborate with Finance, RevOps, and Pricing on consumption models, entitlements, quotas, overages, and reporting mechanisms.

• Clarify ambiguous, cross-team challenges and break them down into actionable tasks.

• Develop senior individual contributors and tech leads, while making succession and technical ownership clear.

• Articulate technical trade-offs and risks to both engineering and business stakeholders across various time zones.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in managing backend or platform engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and professional development.

• Solid hands-on engineering foundation in backend or distributed systems before transitioning to management, with the capability to engage effectively in design and code reviews.

• Experience with product platforms or shared services utilized by multiple product teams.

• Proven history of delivering and operating APIs at scale, with a strong understanding of RESTful API design principles.

• Familiarity with data-intensive systems: handling high-volume event ingestion, aggregation, and reporting.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and influence technical direction across various teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
