Senior Engineering Manager – Grafana Frontend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation teams.

• Take ownership of performance, delivery, and customer outcomes for two distributed engineering teams.

• Establish expectations, delegate tasks, mentor and develop team members, offer constructive feedback, address performance issues, and foster trust and accountability.

• Manage hiring and team planning for both teams.

• Conduct discovery sessions with customers, community members, and internal users to define roadmaps and set priorities.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to establish priorities, resolve dependencies, and make necessary trade-offs.

• Oversee delivery from the discovery phase through to rollout and measurement.

• Leverage AI to synthesize research, guide roadmap and resource decisions, and enhance coordination and reporting.

• Enhance planning, decision-making, and delivery processes; lead the adoption of AI and automation.

• Set the engineering vision for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.

• Define the engineering vision for navigation, search, and resource organization.

• Maintain engineering standards for quality, security, operability, and AI-assisted workflows.

• Drive improvements across Grafana and R&D that enhance engineering productivity and business results.

• Participate in the engineering management on-call rotation and implement solutions to minimize recurring disruptions.

• Utilize Grafana’s AI features for observability, incident investigation, and management.

• Extensive experience managing senior engineers, fostering healthy team dynamics, and nurturing technical leaders.

• Strong technical background in contemporary web or frontend systems.

• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, cross-team challenges into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.

• Excellent product and customer insight.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing.

• Capability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organization.

• Understanding and appreciation of open-source development.

• Practical experience employing AI and automation in leadership roles.

• Applicants must reside in the USA and be in EST time zones.

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or similar large-scale frontend ecosystems is a plus.

• Experience leading a developer platform team is advantageous.

• Familiarity with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products is a bonus.

• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or executing major platform migrations is beneficial.

• Experience contributing to a widely adopted open-source project is a bonus.
