Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +6 more countries.

📋 Description

• Oversee the Frontend Platform and Navigation teams.

• Take responsibility for squad performance, delivery, and customer outcomes.

• Establish expectations, delegate tasks, coach and develop team members, provide constructive feedback, address performance issues, and foster trust and accountability.

• Manage hiring and team planning for both squads.

• Lead discovery initiatives with customers, community members, and internal users.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to prioritize tasks, resolve dependencies, and make informed trade-offs.

• Ensure delivery from the discovery phase through rollout and measurement.

• Utilize AI in management tasks to synthesize research, guide roadmap and resource decisions, and enhance coordination and reporting.

• Enhance squad planning, decision-making, and delivery through AI and automation.

• Define engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.

• Set engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization.

• Maintain standards for quality, security, and operability.

• Drive improvements across Grafana and R&D that boost engineering productivity and business outcomes.

• Participate in the engineering management on-call rotation and implement changes that minimize recurring disruptions.

• Leverage Grafana’s AI capabilities for observability, incident investigation, and management.

• Extensive experience in managing senior engineers, fostering healthy teams, and cultivating technical leaders.

• Strong technical background in modern web or frontend systems.

• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, cross-team challenges into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.

• Strong product acumen and customer insight.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Capability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed environment.

• Appreciation for open-source development.

• Practical experience in utilizing AI and automation in leadership roles, as well as guiding teams to adopt these technologies successfully.

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or similar large-scale frontend ecosystems.

• Background in leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions.

• Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource management products.

• Proven track record in delivering multitenant SaaS solutions or executing major platform migrations.

• Experience contributing to a widely adopted open-source product.
