Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Sweden, +6 more countries.

📋 Description

• Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation teams, taking ownership of performance, delivery, and customer outcomes.

• Establish expectations, delegate tasks, mentor and develop team members, provide constructive feedback, address performance gaps, and foster trust and accountability.

• Manage hiring and team planning for both squads.

• Conduct discovery sessions with customers, community members, and internal users to inform roadmaps and establish priorities.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering leadership to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and negotiate trade-offs.

• Oversee delivery from discovery through to rollout and measurement, including managing milestones and risks.

• Employ AI in management tasks to synthesize research, guide roadmap and resource decisions, and enhance coordination and reporting.

• Champion the adoption of AI and automation within engineering and operational workflows.

• Define engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.

• Establish engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization.

• Maintain engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including the assessment of AI-assisted work.

• Drive enhancements across Grafana and R&D to boost engineering productivity and improve business outcomes.

• Participate in the engineering management on-call rotation and initiate improvements that minimize recurring disruptions.

• Utilize Grafana AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, providing insights for product roadmaps.

• Extensive experience in managing senior engineers, fostering healthy teams, and developing technical leaders.

• Strong technical background in modern web or frontend systems.

• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, cross-team challenges into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.

• Strong judgement in product and customer matters.

• Clear and succinct written communication skills.

• Capacity to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organization.

• Appreciation for open-source development practices.

• Practical experience with AI and automation in leadership roles and guiding teams in their adoption.

• Familiarity with React, TypeScript, or equivalent large-scale frontend ecosystems (bonus).

• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions (bonus).

• Background in navigation, search, information architecture, or resource management products (bonus).

• Experience in delivering multitenant SaaS or executing significant platform migrations (bonus).

• Involvement in a widely adopted open-source product (bonus).
