Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, ensuring performance, delivery, and customer satisfaction.

• Establish expectations, delegate responsibilities, mentor and develop team members, provide constructive feedback, address performance issues, and foster trust and accountability.

• Oversee hiring and team planning for both squads.

• Conduct discovery sessions with customers, community members, and internal users to shape roadmaps and set priorities.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to establish priorities, resolve dependencies, and make necessary trade-offs.

• Manage the delivery process from discovery to rollout and measurement, establishing milestones and mitigating risks.

• Leverage AI in management tasks to synthesize research, guide roadmap and resource decisions, and enhance coordination and reporting.

• Enhance squad planning, decision-making, and delivery through the use of AI and automation.

• Define engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.

• Set engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization, including AI-assisted discovery functionalities.

• Maintain quality, security, and operability standards, including the validation of AI-assisted initiatives.

• Drive improvements across Grafana and R&D to boost engineering productivity and achieve business objectives.

• Engage in the engineering management on-call rotation and implement enhancements that minimize recurring disruptions.

• Utilize Grafana’s AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, contributing to product feedback and roadmap strategies.

• Extensive experience managing senior engineers, cultivating healthy teams, and nurturing technical leaders.

• Strong technical expertise in modern web or frontend systems.

• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, cross-team challenges into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.

• Strong product acumen and customer insight.

• Excellent written communication skills that are clear and concise.

• Capacity to operate effectively within a remote, globally distributed organization.

• Appreciation for open-source development practices.

• Practical experience utilizing AI and automation in leadership roles.

• Familiarity with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems (bonus).

• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions (bonus).

• Background in navigation, search, information architecture, or resource management products (bonus).

• Experience in delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations (bonus).

• Involvement in a widely adopted open-source product (bonus).
