Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +6 more countries.

📋 Description

• Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, being accountable for their performance, delivery, and customer results.

• Establish expectations, delegate responsibilities, mentor and develop team members, provide constructive feedback, address performance deficiencies, and foster trust and accountability.

• Manage hiring and team planning for both squads.

• Conduct discovery with customers, community members, and internal users to inform roadmaps and set priorities.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to prioritize tasks, resolve dependencies, and make necessary trade-offs.

• Oversee the entire delivery process from discovery through rollout and measurement, including managing milestones, risks, and interventions.

• Utilize AI to synthesize research and feedback, guide roadmap and resource allocation decisions, and enhance coordination and reporting.

• Drive the adoption of AI and automation in engineering and operational workflows.

• Define the engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.

• Establish engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization, incorporating AI-assisted discovery.

• Maintain engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including validating AI-assisted work.

• Lead enhancements across Grafana and R&D to boost engineering productivity and business results.

• Participate in the engineering management on-call rotation and advocate for improvements that minimize recurring disruptions.

• Leverage Grafana AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, contributing to product feedback and roadmap planning.

• Extensive experience managing senior engineers, fostering healthy teams, and developing technical leaders.

• Strong technical background in modern web or frontend systems.

• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, cross-team challenges into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.

• Strong product insight and customer judgement.

• Excellent written communication skills, clear and concise.

• Capability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organization.

• Appreciation for open-source development practices.

• Hands-on experience using AI and automation in leadership roles and guiding teams in their adoption.

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or a comparable large-scale frontend ecosystem is preferred as a bonus.

• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions, is preferred as a bonus.

• Familiarity with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products is preferred as a bonus.

• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS solutions or executing major platform migrations is preferred as a bonus.

• Background in working on widely adopted open-source products is preferred as a bonus.
