Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee the Frontend Platform and Navigation teams.

• Take responsibility for performance, delivery, and customer outcomes across two distributed engineering teams.

• Establish expectations, delegate tasks, mentor and develop team members, provide feedback, and address any performance issues.

• Manage hiring and team planning for both squads.

• Lead discovery efforts with customers, community members, and internal stakeholders.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to prioritize tasks, resolve dependencies, and make necessary trade-offs.

• Control the delivery process from discovery to rollout and measurement.

• Utilize AI to synthesize research and feedback, guiding roadmap and resource decisions, as well as enhancing coordination and reporting.

• Enhance planning, decision-making, and delivery through AI and automation.

• Define engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.

• Set the engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization.

• Maintain engineering standards for quality, security, and operability.

• Drive improvements across Grafana and R&D to boost engineering productivity.

• Participate in the engineering management on-call rota and promote initiatives to reduce recurring disruptions.

• Leverage Grafana AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation.

• Extensive experience managing senior engineers, fostering healthy teams, and cultivating technical leaders.

• Robust technical background in modern web or frontend systems.

• Proven ability to convert ambiguous, cross-team challenges into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.

• Strong product intuition and customer judgment.

• Clear and concise written communication skills.

• Ability to effectively operate in a remote, globally distributed environment.

• Appreciation for open-source development practices.

• Hands-on experience with AI and automation in leadership roles, guiding teams in their adoption.

• Applicants must reside in Canada and be in the EST time zone.
