This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +9 more states.
• Oversee engineering teams focused on Porting, Hosting, and A2P Messaging within Twilio’s Communication Identity Domain.
• Take charge of the people strategy, delivery execution, and stakeholder engagement for the domain.
• Manage the delivery roadmap for customer-facing services, internal platform APIs, and operational tooling.
• Convert technical strategies into actionable quarterly plans with measurable results.
• Promote the use of AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude, and internal language models.
• Ensure operational excellence, encompassing system reliability, incident response, on-call health, and security measures.
• Collaborate with Product Management to enhance external customer communication-identity workflows.
• Engage with dependent engineering teams, solicit feedback, and enhance internal APIs and operational tooling.
• Recruit, develop, and maintain a high-performing engineering team.
• Mentor engineers from mid-level to staff level and facilitate career advancement.
• Balance the demands of external product features, internal platform requirements, and operational tooling investments.
• Articulate strategy, progress, risks, trade-offs, and plans to leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Document team plans, post-mortems, and decision-making processes.
• Manage relationships with Product Management, external-facing teams, and internal engineering stakeholders.
• Attend occasional on-site meetings for projects or teams and participate in customer meetings.
• Over 15 years of software engineering experience.
• A minimum of 5 years in engineering management.
• Proven experience leading a team of 10 or more engineers and directly managing individual contributors.
• Strong hands-on experience in designing and operating highly available, cloud-native distributed systems.
• Capability to engage deeply in architectural reviews and assess technical proposals.
• Extensive knowledge of AWS ecosystems, including Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, and Kafka.
• Familiarity with microservices patterns and infrastructure-as-code practices, including Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Demonstrated success in promoting AI tool adoption within an engineering team.
• Proven history of delivering complex software products on schedule and with high quality.
• Experience with agile methodologies and data-driven assessments of team health and productivity.
• Track record of building diverse, inclusive, and high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience with career frameworks, performance management, and developing engineers from mid-level to staff-plus.
• Strong ability to communicate technical strategy, trade-offs, and team plans.
• Proven experience in stakeholder management across competing priorities.
• Ability to balance commitments to external customers with internal platform responsibilities.
• Experience ensuring reliability for mission-critical services, including incident management, on-call rotations, and SLO-driven enhancements.
• Experience leading internal platforms or operational tooling for engineering teams (preferred).
• Experience scaling teams amidst change and ambiguity (preferred).
