This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and enhance a robust engineering organization spanning multiple teams.
• Foster clarity, accountability, and growth among teams, managers, and team leads.
• Create a credible cross-team delivery framework with clear priorities, ownership, dependencies, and capacity.
• Address trade-offs that cannot be resolved by an individual team.
• Collaborate with Product and Design leadership on achieving domain-level outcomes and executing plans.
• Engage in discovery, convert business priorities into actionable cross-team strategies, and negotiate project scope.
• Maintain high engineering standards across the organization through appropriate technical review processes and consistent standards.
• Oversee production health, ensuring teams can manage their outputs and respond effectively to any failures.
• Leverage delivery, quality, and reliability indicators to identify necessary interventions and tackle underlying issues.
• Define practices for delegation, verification, and review in AI-assisted engineering.
• Refine hiring and leveling criteria to incorporate AI-native skills.
• Mentor managers as they transition their teams to AI-driven engineering practices.
• Proven experience in leading engineers and managers through organizational scaling across multiple teams.
• Skilled in setting expectations, coaching individuals at various levels, managing performance, facilitating career development and promotions, and navigating challenging conversations.
• Technical expertise across multiple technical domains.
• Proficient in conducting design reviews for Java, Python, C#, or equivalent systems.
• Capable of evaluating API contracts and data models critically.
• Able to reason about failure modes and formulate testing strategies.
• Experience managing production engineering across several teams utilizing AWS or Azure.
• Responsible for observability, SLOs, on-call duties, incident response, and postmortem analysis.
• Expertise in leading secure, privacy-focused systems.
• Competent in challenging authentication and authorization decisions.
• Familiarity with threat modeling, sensitive data management, and security remediation practices.
• Preferred experience in PHI/HIPAA or similar regulated environments.
• Experience utilizing delivery, quality, reliability, and team health metrics at the organizational level.
• Knowledge of metrics such as cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, escaped defects, MTTR, or operational load.
• Proven ability to create teams and managers that function independently beyond a single team.
• Hands-on experience leading AI-first engineering initiatives.
• Experience in directing AI agents in real-world tasks and establishing delegation and verification protocols.
