This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Drive engineering delivery, quality, speed, and team enhancement in an AI-driven engineering environment.
• Develop engineers through impactful one-on-one meetings, performance discussions, and career growth opportunities.
• Oversee hiring standards and conduct interviews for new hires.
• Collaborate with Product to define the roadmap, negotiate project scope, and minimize unnecessary fluctuations.
• Elevate the team's AI engineering proficiency and enhance agent workflows.
• Assist in evolving the engineering framework towards autonomous agent fleets with suitable guardrails and harnesses.
• Remain technically engaged for approximately one day each week through code reviews and selected engineering tasks.
• Interact with freight forwarders and airlines, involving engineers in customer engagements.
• Set and uphold standards for specifications, architecture, reviews, and delivered work.
• Proven experience in managing engineers, including hiring, developing talent, conducting honest performance evaluations, and ensuring predictable delivery.
• Background in backend engineering.
• Strong instincts in architecture.
• Adequate technical knowledge to maintain the respect of engineers regarding their technical capabilities.
• A demonstrated history of successful project delivery with specific shipped work and timelines.
• Experience in building teams, evaluating potential candidates, successfully closing hires, and effectively onboarding within the first 90 days.
• Genuine interest in AI-driven engineering and a readiness to utilize AI tools directly.
• Sound judgment and a willingness to make and take responsibility for decisions based on incomplete information.
• Low ego and receptiveness to feedback.
• Proficiency in English as a working language, close to native fluency.
• Nice to have: experience with Python 3, Flask, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, Kubernetes on GCP, Vue.js, managing distributed teams across multiple countries, or implementing innovative working methods.
• Must reside in one of the approved hiring countries.
• Equity in cargo.one; this position is eligible for equity.
• Company-provided Claude Code and other necessary AI tools for the role.
• One-time €650 budget for home office setup.
• Option to choose between a MacBook or Dell laptop, delivered prior to the start date.
