Senior Engineering Manager

📋 Description

• Lead a team of engineers that includes employees, internal contractors, and external contractors, ensuring high performance.

• Deliver impactful features and enhancements to core services and systems.

• Emphasize people management, team development, and strategic execution over hands-on coding.

• Drive project execution in alignment with semi-annual and annual goals.

• Promote ownership, excellence, and a psychologically safe environment.

• Establish team priorities, goals, and key performance metrics while ensuring accountability.

• Collaborate with engineering teams as well as product, design, and customer stakeholders.

• Build and nurture a diverse, high-performing team through effective hiring, coaching, and growth opportunities.

• Balance business operations, foundational work, and new initiatives effectively.

• Identify and mitigate technical risks, system bottlenecks, and process inefficiencies.

• Facilitate decision-making by gathering diverse perspectives and aligning customer value with business objectives.

• Advocate for architectural quality, operational excellence, and alignment with technical strategy.

• Expect approximately 10–20% business travel.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 10 years of relevant experience.

• US Citizenship is mandatory.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust 6C clearance.

• Proven history of leading high-performing engineering teams.

• Experience in managing full-time employees, internal contractors, and external contractors.

• Proficient in coaching, development, and enabling team success.

• Comprehensive experience managing the complete software development lifecycle.

• Skilled in navigating complexity and ambiguity while preserving team focus and morale.

• Demonstrated success in building, hiring, and developing diverse engineering teams.

• Experience in setting technical direction and making architectural trade-offs.

• Strong people management abilities, encompassing coaching, performance management, and conflict resolution.

• Capable of providing technical feedback on designs and architectural decisions without direct coding involvement.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and contemporary engineering practices.

• Experience in establishing efficient processes and operational rhythms.

• Ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic delivery of business value.

• Skilled in reviewing system health, engineering quality, and alignment of technical strategy.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages for various audiences.

• Proven experience in building cross-functional relationships and facilitating constructive conflict.

• Possess a growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning.

• Capable of guiding teams through organizational changes.

• Demonstrated application of AI and automation tools to enhance productivity and engineering outcomes.
