This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Take ownership of intricate features and technical challenges across cloud services, APIs, event-driven systems, web applications, IoT infrastructure, and occasionally the device edge.
• Transform vaguely defined product or customer requirements into technically comprehensive solutions.
• Recognize constraints, assess alternatives, question assumptions, and drive designs from conception to implementation and production.
• Apply product and engineering judgment while minimizing unnecessary complexity.
• Lead technical initiatives through influence by providing clarity and coordinating efforts among engineers and teams.
• Conduct code and design reviews, mentor peers, facilitate technical discussions, and disseminate knowledge.
• Collaborate effectively with Product, QA, firmware, security, operations, and various engineering teams.
• Articulate technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Develop operable software with a focus on observability, failure modes, security, performance, cost, maintainability, and deployment strategies.
• Contribute to enhancements in architecture, development practices, tooling, and the engineering culture.
• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Over 6 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven history of independently managing significant technical challenges from initial investigation to production.
• Strong foundational knowledge in software engineering.
• Capability to quickly become productive in unfamiliar technologies, codebases, and system components.
• Experience in designing, building, and maintaining production distributed systems or cloud applications.
• Sound technical judgment with the ability to make appropriate trade-offs.
• Demonstrated ownership and proactive initiative.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to remain hands-on while supporting the success of fellow engineers.
• Strong debugging and systems-thinking abilities.
• Familiarity with AWS or similar public cloud platforms.
• Experience with IoT or connected-device systems.
• Proven experience with TypeScript, Node.js, or similar modern application development technologies.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous workflows, message-oriented systems, and managed cloud data services.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code and automated cloud infrastructure management.
• Experience with customer-facing interfaces, modern front-end frameworks, and API design.
• Familiarity with production observability, incident investigation, distributed tracing, structured logging, and operational troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Embedded C or C++, or knowledge of embedded systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers or informally leading small groups or technical projects.
• Must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
