This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Publish 8–10 books annually, including key titles
• Commission and acquire titles with significant critical, commercial, and backlist potential
• Cultivate relationships with literary agents, authors, and subsidiary rights directors
• Negotiate major terms for prospective acquisitions
• Develop and edit manuscripts at both structural and line levels
• Shape and advance authors’ careers across multiple titles
• Identify growth opportunities and establish a cohesive fiction catalog
• Serve as a liaison between in-house teams and external partners
• Position books for diverse and suitable audiences
• Prepare and present materials during launch meetings and key moments in the publishing cycle
• Assist departments with selling points, jacket briefs, and compelling pitches
• Maintain publishing schedules for the entire list of titles
• Coordinate efforts across departments
• Mentor colleagues, provide feedback on projects, and generate editorial ideas
• Collaborate with an editorial colleague to oversee one employee
• 8+ years of experience in book publishing or equivalent
• Highly refined editing and copywriting abilities
• Extensive network within writing, journalism, agent communities, and beyond
• Proficient understanding of P&Ls, production schedules, and contractual terms
• Deep engagement with the fiction landscape and market across various readerships
• Familiarity with negotiation processes and contract language
• Experience and enthusiasm for collaborative work and supporting team success
• Capability to manage diverse needs and perspectives, communicating professionally with diplomacy, discernment, and care
