This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria, +1 more country.
• Design and manage drivers for CrateDB, encompassing JDBC and Python/SQLAlchemy.
• Establish connections with external tools such as Grafana, Tableau, and Airflow.
• Create and maintain internal administrative utilities, including crash CLI and Admin UI.
• Enhance PostgreSQL compatibility within CrateDB and its ecosystem.
• Develop migration tools for transitioning to and from various database systems and storage formats.
• Author and sustain technical documentation, including reference architectures and integration examples.
• Collaborate with the open source community and technical partners on joint initiatives.
• Assist Product Managers with technical specifications.
• Engage directly with founding engineers on projects managed in public GitHub repositories.
• Make contributions to third-party applications and frameworks such as SQLAlchemy, pandas, Dask, Apache Kafka, Flink, Superset, Airflow, and Grafana.
• Understanding of standards and protocols, including HTTP, PG Wire Protocol, Python DB API, and JDBC.
• Proficient in at least Python and Java.
• Experience with additional programming languages such as Rust, C++, Golang, Swift, or Zig is preferred.
• Familiarity with test-driven development practices.
• Knowledge of versioning, packaging, and deployment in a polyglot software environment.
• Comprehension of how software operates in production settings.
• Proficient in working with relational databases and SQL.
• Strong skills in debugging and problem resolution.
• Self-motivated, hands-on engineering mindset.
• Capability to advance development initiatives in a full-stack capacity while ensuring software quality, documentation, and communication.
• Previous open source contributions are advantageous but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with message bus systems like AMQP, Kafka, MQTT, or ZeroMQ and their respective broker implementations is a plus.
• Knowledge and/or experience in DevOps within containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes is beneficial.
