
Senior Director, Health Economics – Actuarial Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of measuring clinical outcomes for client member populations, such as weight loss, A1c, blood pressure, food insecurity, HEDIS measures, and client quality metrics.
• Manage Foodsmart’s ROI methodology by converting clinical outcomes into economic value and identifying which member populations gain the most benefit.
• Advocate for the methodology directly to payers and external actuarial and consulting firms.
• Lead the analytical content of client value stories, focusing on members’ outcomes rather than generic benchmarks.
• Contribute to the development of value-based care strategy, including targeting member populations and establishing credible performance commitments.
• Create scalable outcomes and ROI methodologies for new populations and client discussions.
• Collaborate on peer-reviewed research with academic partners.
• Work alongside the clinical team to translate findings and best practices into care delivery.
• Lead and mentor a small team while remaining actively involved in research and methodology.
• Utilize AI and other tools to enhance analysis and expand team capabilities.
• Report directly to the VP of Analytics & Data Science.
• A background in health economics, actuarial science, or a closely related quantitative field, with demonstrated application to healthcare cost and value issues.
• Experience in demonstrating ROI and value within a telehealth or digital health organization, or a foundation in the payer or consulting domains followed by experience in digital health.
• Practical experience in measuring clinical outcomes and quality across populations, including familiarity with HEDIS and prevalent chronic condition measures.
• Extensive hands-on experience with healthcare claims data, both medical and pharmacy (Rx), including the practicalities of utilizing it for cost and utilization analysis.
• In-depth expertise in causal inference as it pertains to healthcare costs and outcomes: matched cohort design, risk adjustment, and quasi-experimental methodologies.
• Direct experience in presenting and defending ROI methodologies to payers, actuaries, or similarly technical external audiences.
• Experience with value-based care arrangements and a perspective on what a provider or vendor can realistically commit to.
• Experience collaborating with clinical or care delivery teams to apply findings in practice.
• Proficiency in working directly with data (SQL, R, or Python) to perform your own analyses.
• Familiarity with AI-native tools (Claude Code or equivalent) to expedite analysis.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• An advanced degree or actuarial credentials (ASA, FSA, MAAA) are advantageous but not mandatory.
