Senior Director – Environmental, Health & Safety

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for Environmental, Health & Safety programs across all operations and business functions at Transco Rail Services.

• Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously enhance Environmental, Health & Safety policies, standards, procedures, and management systems.

• Establish uniform Environmental, Health & Safety expectations and accountability measures across field operations, shop operations, corporate functions, and support departments.

• Collaborate with operational and functional leaders to identify risks, enhance performance, and support business objectives.

• Formulate Environmental, Health & Safety strategies that align with company goals, operational priorities, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.

• Monitor, analyze, and communicate Environmental, Health & Safety performance metrics, trends, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.

• Lead initiatives to strengthen the Environmental, Health & Safety culture, employee engagement, and operational discipline.

• Oversee environmental compliance programs, audits, assessments, inspections, reporting, and sustainability initiatives.

• Manage environmental risk related to hazardous materials, waste management, spill prevention, air quality, water management, and incident response.

• Spearhead occupational health initiatives focused on employee wellbeing, industrial hygiene, exposure reduction, injury prevention, and workforce readiness.

• Supervise occupational injury management and Workers' Compensation programs.

• Track injury and illness trends and develop health-related training and awareness programs.

• Lead the strategic development and ongoing improvement of safety programs.

• Drive safety initiatives, action plans, performance improvements, facility assessments, audits, inspections, and operational reviews.

• Coordinate responses to significant incidents, injuries, near misses, vehicle accidents, and operational events.

• Conduct investigations related to serious injuries, fatalities, environmental incidents, vehicle accidents, regulatory matters, and other high-risk events.

• Ensure that corrective and preventive actions are developed, implemented, documented, and evaluated.

• Maintain audit and assessment processes to verify compliance with regulatory, customer, and company standards.

• Collaborate with Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators on liability and Workers' Compensation issues.

• Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership.

• Directly supervise Director-level Environmental, Health & Safety leaders and other assigned personnel.

• Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, performance management, professional development, succession planning, and talent assessment.

• Establish departmental priorities, goals, objectives, and performance expectations.

• Act as the primary Environmental, Health & Safety advisor to Transco Rail Services leadership teams.

• Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources, Engineering, Finance, Commercial, Procurement, Information Technology, Risk Management, and other functions.

• Support acquisitions, business expansions, facility start-ups, customer initiatives, and operational changes through Environmental, Health & Safety planning and risk assessments.

• Promote alignment of Environmental, Health & Safety expectations across geographically dispersed operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Safety & Health, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related field is required.

• Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in Environmental, Health & Safety leadership.

• Proven experience supporting multi-site operations in industrial, transportation, manufacturing, rail service, field service, or similar environments.

• Demonstrated success in improving Environmental, Health & Safety performance and reducing organizational risk.

• Significant experience leading Environmental, Health & Safety professionals and functional leaders.

• Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, industrial hygiene, injury prevention, incident management, environmental compliance, and risk management programs.

• Proven ability to influence operational and functional leaders across diverse business environments.

• Strong working knowledge of environmental, occupational health, and workplace safety regulations in the United States and Canada.

• Thorough understanding of industrial hygiene principles, risk assessments, incident investigation methodologies, root cause analysis, and corrective action management.

• Strong understanding of Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, and risk mitigation strategies.

• Ability to create and implement company-wide Environmental, Health & Safety standards, procedures, and improvement initiatives.

• Strong business acumen with the ability to align Environmental, Health & Safety priorities with organizational goals.

• Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and influencing skills.

• Ability to build effective partnerships across all organizational levels and functions.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.

• Experience using metrics, reporting tools, and performance data to support decision-making.

• Proven ability to lead organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Strong project management and strategic planning capabilities.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Environmental, Health & Safety management systems.

• Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and meet all customer and company site access requirements.

• Ability to work in office environments, rail yards, repair facilities, mobile field service settings, customer locations, and industrial work environments.

• Ability to walk facilities, climb stairs and ladders, access elevated work areas, and traverse uneven terrain.

• Ability to operate motor vehicles and travel via commercial aircraft as necessary.

• Willingness to work extended hours and respond to significant environmental, regulatory, operational, or safety events when required.

• Frequent travel throughout the United States and Canada, typically 40-60% based on business needs.

• Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or a comparable credential is preferred.

• A Master's Degree is preferred.
